This modern country house on the outskirts of a large city gave the new homeowners what they sought: easy access to mountain biking trails, an excellent elementary school within walking distance, and a chance for indoor-outdoor living. The architects doubled down on an open, airy concept and equipped the house with floor-to-ceiling lift & slide European doors: the contemporary home for work, rest, and play doesn’t necessarily mean creating solid walls.
The interior features Dorsis frameless interior doors, black framed glass interior room dividers, and minimalistic flush baseboards, providing a fully integrated design.
The kitchen and the living room are separated by a custom-built glass interior glass wall, providing visual connection but enabling the owners to isolate the noise between the two areas. We designed a two-panel sliding door from our Dorsis Digero wall system. The color of the thin aluminum frame matches the exterior windows.
Like the living room, the kitchen has a floor-to-ceiling lift & slide patio door. The waterfall kitchen island has seating for four people with a dimmable linear LED pendant light.
The custom-made tall and narrow interior window from our flexible Dorsis Digero interior glazing system lets owners peek through the house. All trimless doors in the house are Dorsis Fortius. Concealed door frames (and the lack of traditional door casing) elevate the design and unique pattern of the wood veneer. Complementing the interior design is the Linus recessed baseboard that was fully integrated with the internal window and the concealed door jamb.
The project architect selected a large format onyx slab to house a wall recessed fireplace, adding to the luxury feel of the living room. Onyx is a beautiful natural stone, with a crystalline structure, semi-translucent hues, and vibrant pattern.
Ready for mud and dirt, this time our Dorsis Linus flush baseboard system features a custom tile insert, matching the non-porous gray terrazzo floor.
Terrazzo, often described as a decorative form of concrete, is a composite material made with marble, granite, glass, or quartz chips set into cement. Marble chips of random sizes are mixed in a binder, troweled, ground, and polished.
The entryway has three Dorsis Fortius inswing and outswing doors with concealed door jambs: two doors are flush to the wall; the door in the middle opens from the living room into the hallway and is flush on the other side. The wood veneer that the interior design team selected for these filomuro doors has a very subtle grain pattern, matching the wall-mounting cabinets and creating visual harmony with the clean white walls.
